The Pampulha Modern Ensemble in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil is a notable urban project designed around the artificial Lake Pampulha in the district of the same name. This site features an impressive array of architectural accomplishments, including a casino, ballroom, Golf Yacht Club, and Church of Saint Francis of Assisi. It was designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, in collaboration with landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, Modernist Brazilian artists, and engineer Joaquim Cardozo. For this reason, the Pampulha Modern Ensemble was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2016, in recognition of its remarkable modern architecture and its significance to the development of a Brazilian architectural identity.
