The Acacus Mountains, also known as Tadrart Akakus (Arabic: تدرارت أكاكوس / ALA-LC: Tadrārt Akākūs), are located in the Ghat District of western Libya, in the Sahara desert. The range starts at the border with Algeria, around 100 kilometres (62 mi) east of Ghat, and extends northward. This region is home to a wealth of prehistoric rock art. The word "Tadrart" is the feminine term for "mountain" in the Berber language (the masculine form is "adrar").
