Location details
Built | 1950 |
Since 1997, Amoeba has been the largest independent record store in the world, perhaps rivaled only by its sister location in Hollywood. The huge space was built in 1950, and formerly the Park Bowl bowling alley. Amoeba’s still-running original store is based across the Bay on Telegraph Avenue, a few blocks south of UC Berkeley. Amoeba has hosted many in-store performances, often by indie rock musicians, and stars such as Jimmy Page have been sighted shopping for records here.
