Opened in 1952, Bimbo’s offered variety fare for the next couple decades, with mainstream comedians like Sid Caesar and jazz-poppers like Louis Prima before sliding into pop-rock in the late 1960s with the likes of Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and Neil Diamond. Although it closed (except for private parties) in 1970, it reopened for the general public in 1988, and since then has featured all sorts of popular music, including many rock shows by stars and cult artists.
