El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve

The El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is jointly managed by Mexico's Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources, and the governments of Sonora and the Tohono O'odham. This reserve is located in the north of Mexico, in the Sonoran Desert, east of the Gulf of California, and south of the border with Arizona, USA. It is home to the Santa Clara volcanic system, which includes three peaks: Pinacate, Carnegie and Medio. These peaks are visible from space, making this reserve one of the most significant landforms in North America.
