The nation's most popular national park, the Great Smoky Mountains, is located in the southeastern United States, with parts in North Carolina and Tennessee. These mountains are part of the Blue Ridge range of the larger Appalachian Mountain chain and include some of the highest peaks in eastern North America, such as Clingmans Dome, Mount Guyot, and Mount Le Conte. The Appalachian Trail passes through the center of the park, running from Georgia to Maine, and the park's border between the two states goes northeast to southwest. In 2021, the park saw 14.1 million visitors, making it the most visited national park in the U.S.
