Mariam Dolukhanova, the mistress of the grand mansion built in 1906, would undoubtedly deserve a Nobel Prize for charity if one existed. Born into the prominent Dolukhanov family, known for their involvement in public life, Mariam married Georgy Mikhailovich Tumanov and emerged as a notable socialite in Tbilisi. Actively engaged in charity events, she was a regular attendee of traditional balls aimed at supporting the Society for Spreading of Literacy among Georgians. Mariam's philanthropic endeavors extended beyond literacy initiatives. She joined the boards of the Armenian Charitable Society and the Temperance Society, and played a role in founding the Avlabari People's Theatre. Her support extended to the talented poet Hovhannes Tumanyan. An industrious advocate for social causes, Mariam established the first carpet weaving workshop for underprivileged girls and a children's student canteen in the Avlabari neighborhood. Leveraging her connections, she fulfilled Hovhannes Khudadov's will by opening a shelter in his name and a tuberculosis sanatorium in Abastumani. Despite the Dolukhanovs' origins in Artsakh, they became integral to the public life of Tiflis. The family mansion on Paskevich Street, designed like a castle, witnessed nationalization during Sovietization. Mariam's kin received only a small portion, and tragedy struck with the exile of Isaiah Dolukhanov and the execution of his daughters in 1938.
