Hotel "Marriott Tbilisi", the former "Hôtel Majestic", was designed by the architect Gabriel (Gavriil) Ter-Mikelov and was built in 1915. The merchant of the first guild, Mikael Aramyants, bought land at the corner of Golovinsky Prospekt and A. Baryatinsky st. and commissioned the architect Alexander Ozerov to design the new hotel in 1910. Simultaneously, Alexander Ozerov was building the Palace Hôtel, also owned by Mikael Aramyants, located a little further on Golovinsky Prospekt. The client did not like the design direction and the job went to architect Gabriel Ter-Mikelov. The construction was completed in 1915, but due to the First World War, the opening of the hotel was postponed, as the building was converted into a military hospital. The hotel functioned for some time during the years of the Democratic Republic. It housed the highest ranking military personnel of the British army that was based in Georgia at that time. After the establishment of Soviet power, the building was repurposed to house the Palace of Labor for some time. Gabriel Ter-Mikelov was invited to work on the building for the second time in 1935, as it was decided to turn it into a hotel again. The Soviets named the hotel Tbilisi. One of the most beautiful buildings on Rustaveli Avenue, the former Majestic burned down during the civil war in the winter of 1991-1992. Style - eclectic Renaissance and Baroque. The facade of the first floor is finished with Algerian stone. Interior decorators from Petrograd were invited to work under the guidance of Tarusin and Prusetsky. Masters of Anton Novak a Tiflis-based firm also worked on the building. The details of the façade were made under the guidance of stone master Lavrenty Agladze.
