Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve

Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve is a wild area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Newfoundland and Labrador's Avalon Peninsula. Home to the Mistaken Point Formation, the reserve contains one of the most comprehensive and well-preserved sets of Precambrian fossils in the world. The Ediacaran fossils found there are the oldest known multicellular life on Earth. Mistaken Point (46°37′32″N 53°09′41″W / 46.62556°N 53.16139°W / 46.62556; -53.16139) is a headland on the Avalon Peninsula. Its hazy weather conditions frequently led to sailors confusing it with Cape Race, and they would turn north, assuming they had arrived at Cape Race Harbour, only to crash into rocks.
