All that remains of one of the oldest palaces of Tbilisi is Sachino (“sachino” in Georgian means “a prominent place.”) It is located on Peritsvalebis (Transfiguration of the Lord), 7. The palace was built in 1776 for the wife of King Erekle II (Heraclius II), Queen Darejan (Daria) (1734-1807), so it is also called the Palace of Queen Darejan. All these buildings, together with the servants' quarters, were built as a single complex on the ruins of a fortress, erected with an old mixed masonry of cobblestone and square brick. A round wooden balcony stands out, framing the ancient tower and hanging over the rock. The balcony and several living quarters, all that remains of the palace, were reconstructed in the 1980s and from 2016 to 2020. In 1824 a women's monastery was founded here in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord. In Soviet times, the Sachino Palace housed the Museum of the History of the Tbilisi District. named after 26 Baku commissars. Now there is a nunnery and the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
