The monument to the outstanding film director Sergei "Sergo" Parajanov (born Sarkis Hovsepi Parajaniants) was erected in 2004. Parajanov was born in Tbilisi to artistically-gifted Armenian parents, Iosif Paradjanov and Siranush Bejanova in 1924 and died in Yerevan in 1990. A widely known and loved photograph by a famous photographer and Tbilisi native Yuri Mechitov served as inspiration for the sculpture.
