The major landmark of the University of San Francisco campus was dedicated in 1914, overlooking the Golden Gate Park Panhandle a few blocks north of Haight-Ashbury. Although a small wood-frame church was built in 1855 near a schoolhouse that became the Saint Ignatius Academy (and eventually USF), this is actually the fifth San Francisco church bearing this name. While it continues to serve as USF’s chapel, it also houses the Manresa Gallery for artwork, though the gallery’s currently on hiatus.
