The Armenian Church of the Annunciation of the Mother of God is better known as Norashen/Նորաշեն (ARM), which means “new settlement” in Armenian. This is a domed basilica with facades of decorative arches. An openwork rotunda of the bell tower rises above the western facade. The interior of the church is decorated with frescoes by the prominent Hovnatanyan family that were painted between 1834-1835. The construction of the church dates from 1793 to 1796. Then it was restored in 1808 and 1875. Two khachkars of the 17th century were engraved into the walls of the temple. Khachkar is a type of Armenian architectural monument, which is a stone stele with a carved image of a cross. From 1924 to 1980 the Soviet government used the church as a repository of books. Now it is closed for restoration.
