Completed in 1972, the 853-foot-high Transamerica Pyramid was until recently the city’s tallest building. Although it’s been surpassed in height by the Salesforce Tower, it remains San Francisco’s most iconic skyscraper. Its observation deck has been closed since the turn of the century, but visitors still have free unsupervised access to the small Redwood Park at its base, highlighted by the Anthony Guzzardo-designed pond of frog and lily pad sculptures.
