This 2-3 story building located in the city park of Gyumri has a rich history of getting repurposed and reconstructed a few times throughout its history. The building formerly known to locals as the old theater building is now the Tumo Gyumri building. There is almost no information on the very first building built on this site. All we know is that there was a summer gathering house for the community. "People's House" of Alexandropol Through the efforts of the city management of Alexandropol, a "People's House" opened in the building of the summer gathering house in 1903. The main purpose of the idea of "People's House" was to educate the population of Alexandropol according to European standards and by cutting it off from the patriarchal lifestyle. "People's house - an institution accessible to the poor, a perfect facility that could offer all the conveniences of the modern world - a garden, community gathering room, library with a reading room, gallery, theater, concert stage for performances, a lecture hall, a hall for games and children's matinees, etc. That's what the people's house is," summarised the functions of the People's House an Alexandropol (former name of Gyumri) newspaper. It should be noted that the opening of the People's House greatly revitalized the cultural, scientific, and educational life in the city. The Alexandropol Theater, which was founded on May 23, 1865, finally got a nice venue to rehearse and perform. In addition to this, the multi-functional building allowed people to organize concerts and lectures about various subjects. Since Alexandropol did not have a theater building, most of the theater performances in the city were staged here. That's why this structure is mostly associated with performances. Visiting theater groups, choirs, and soloists from the South Caucasus and Russia performed on the stage of the People's House.
