About
Zohrab Erkoyan, born on November 26th, 1958, in Geghovit village, Martuni region, hails from a working-class family. He graduated from Yerevan State University's Faculty of Philology between 1985-1991.
His professional journey includes roles such as a teacher of Armenian language and literature in Masis region, responsible secretary at Yerevan State University's "Yerevan University" official newsletter, and a leading specialist at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, and Youth in Kashatagh region (1996-2010). Later, he served as the chief editor of the "Meran" newspaper in Kashatagh from 2010 to 2023.
Erkoyan actively participated in defense and liberation battles on Armenia and Artsakh's borders from 1989 to 1994. He documented these events through media reports and authored the books "Eagles are in the clouds" and the illustration album "Our Kashatagh."
Recognitions for his contributions include medals from the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, the Artsakh President, and the Armenian Ministry of Education and Culture. He founded the "Volunteers of Country Protection Union" in the Kashatagh region.
Erkoyan's dedication to education in Kashatagh earned him the Golden Commemorative Medal and Certificates from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Armenia and the Nagorno Karabagh Government.
He actively supported Artsakh during conflicts, participating in defense battles in 2014 and covering front-line events in 2016. During the 2020 war, he worked at the "Country Protection" headquarters and facilitated aid shipments to Artsakh.
Erkoyan served as the vice president of Kashatagh's territorial department until November 2020. He is married with three daughters. Notably, he recently co-authored the book "The Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Nagorno Karabagh Conflict Zone" with Mher Kamunts, showcasing his commitment to preserving the region's rich heritage.
