This seven-story Art Moderne style apartment, built for Mrs. Louis Ghirardelli at 290 Lombard Street, was completely out of scale with its surrounding and was disliked for blocking views. Among the unhappy neighbors was architect Gardner Dailey, whose attorney suggested placing a “forty-foot height limit on the Hill.” (Dillon 1985: 45; Sanborn Map Company 1949; Ryan 1960: 327)
