Location details
Built | 1882 |
Architects | Adolf Feszty |
Owners | French Foncière Insurance company |
Standing proudly at the corner of Andrássy út and Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út is the Foncière-palota, a Budapest landmark designed in 1882 by the prominent 19th-century architect Adolf Feszty. Originally commissioned by the French Foncière Insurance company, the building stands as a testament to Feszty's contributions to the city's architectural landscape, alongside creations like the (now demolished) Haris-bazár and mansions lining the then-developing Sugár út (present-day Andrássy út). While the dome fell victim to World War II and wasn't rebuilt, the statue of Hermes, once lost, was thankfully restored in 1990. Today, this listed monument boasts a multifaceted existence, housing hotels, lawyers' offices, and apartments within its walls.
